STUDENT VISITORSThe Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Clerkship Program utilizes the same clinical sites and faculty members for medical student teaching as does the Residency Program. Students at any United States accredited medical school are welcome to apply through Harvard Medical School (HMS) for an elective at any of our facilities. Students can also request individually designed electives to accommodate particular areas of interest. Examples of elective clerkship opportunities include the following: 1. Consultation-liaison psychiatry at the Brigham and Women’s 2. Emergency room psychiatry at BIDMC; 3. A Day Hospital rotation at the Massachusetts Mental Health 4. Forensic psychiatry at MMHC, BIDMC, or BWH; 5. Outpatient psychiatry, including work in homeless shelters and in 6. Inpatient psychiatry at BIDMC. Other combinations, including research opportunities, are possible depending on student interest and faculty availability. If interested, please first contact Dr. Robert Goisman, Harvard Longwood Psychiatry Clerkship Director by phone at (617) 626-9549 or by e-mail at Robert_goisman@hms.harvard.edu. After designing your rotation with Dr. Goisman, contact Mr. David Berti, HMS Exchange Clerkship Director, in the HMS Registrar’s Office at (617) 432-1515, in order to officially apply to the medical school for an elective. Students cannot be accepted by a clinical site until they have been accepted by the medical school. Mr. Berti will provide you with application materials and can advise you about housing in Boston as well. Please allow for at least 3-4 months between your first expression of interest and the actual first date of your rotation. Some support is available for African-American, Latino, and Native American
applicants through Harvard Medical School's Visiting Clerkship
Program. This program provides a stipend toward the cost. For information about the program, contact the VCP project coordinator at:
