Farmer's Market Coupons

    Description:

Farmer's Market Coupons are associated with the WIC program, which provides food vouchers for nutritious foods to supplement diets, information on healthy eating, and referrals to health care for women, infants, and children up to 5 years of age who are at nurtitional risk.

Farmer's Market Coupons supplement the WIC program by providing a way to get locally grown fruits and vegetables to WIC participants.

Eligible WIC participants are issued FMNP coupons in addition to their regular WIC food instruments. These coupons can be used to buy fresh, unprepared fruits, vegetables and herbs from farmers, farmers' markets or roadside stands that have been approved by the State agency to accept FMNP coupons. The farmers, farmers’ markets or roadside stands then submit the coupons to the bank or State agency for reimbursement. The Federal food benefit level for FMNP recipients may not be less than $10 and no more than $30 per year, per recipient. However, State agencies may supplement the benefit level.

    Benefits:

A variety of fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally grown fruits, vegetables and herbs may be purchased with FMNP coupons.  Each State agency develops a list of fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs that can be purchased with FMNP coupons.

    Eligibility:

Women, infants (over 4 months old) and children that have been certified to receive WIC program benefits or who are on a waiting list for WIC certification are eligible to participate in the FMNP.

Additionally, Farmer's Market coupons are available to the elderly through the local council on aging.

    Application:

WIC participants are eligible for the Farmer's Market Nutrition Program and may receive coupons from their WIC counselor. To become a WIC participant you must contact your State or local agency to set-up an appointment. To find a location closest to you call Massachusetts WIC toll-free at 1-800-942-1007 or find your local WIC office online.

Eligible Elders may receive Farmer's Coupons through their local Council on Aging.
