- The U Visa is law. Folks who have U visa status will continue to have U visa status. Once the government gives a benefit, it is difficult for it to take it away.
- Deferred action- people who are waiting for a decision on their U visa, it is harder to say whether they will continue to get work permits while they wait. People who already have a work permit will have work authorization at least until the work permit expires. After that, it’s impossible to say what the future holds.
- Greencards: The same applies for people with greencards. The government can’t just take it away. However, as always, people should strongly consider becoming U.S. citizens as soon as they are eligible to naturalize.
